Grandchild

written by: James Walmsley

On my travels through this life,
I have seen so many things,
I see the sunrise every day and
the miracle of life it brings.

The path I take upon this earth
is entirely down to me.
And down that path
I see beautiful life can be.

To watch a flower’s petal
open, is wondrous to me.
And hear the birds sing
their perfect harmonies.

A child’s scream of pleasure
as they play in the park.
A loving arm around a friend
to heal a broken heart.

To walk with your life love,
knowing you will never part.
And then the wonder happens
a miracle, another beating heart.

And if I have ever loved,
I have never loved
like I loved
on that given day.

And in the Autumn of my life
I stand with my love, my wife.
We look down at another beating
heart, our grandchild.

And if we have ever loved
we have never loved
like we loved
on that given day.
