NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Illustration description: A dark, cloudy landscape partial to cool hues. The haiku sits in the top left quadrant of the image in white lettering highlighted in fuzzy, pale yellow. The font is Ink Free Regular – not polished or systemic looking, but somewhat like hand printing, or something scratched there in the water with haste. The lines move diagonally toward a figure in the center. They are dressed in a full-body grey diving suit, the cord of which meanders upward. The window in the mask glows, complete with a halo ring. Just below the haiku, a crack in the uneven terrain appears to show the lava below. A white hot spot in the center suggests it may be the eye of a massive creature. A hallow around this supposed pupil adds emphasis. On the right edge of the image, a plume of fire appears to be jetting upward out of the “ground”. The flames within appear almost oily, or metallic, and the edges of the plume glow with a pale yellow dust-like aura. Created in Adobe Photoshop.
