I Hear Sleigh Bells Ringing on Christmas Eve

I hear sleigh bells ringing
on Christmas Eve.
Their notes,
settling and chaste,
jingles,
jingles, and
jingles from December’s cold, night sky,
over rooftops, down the chimney’s
scarlet, cracked mouths,
and around my head.
I listen to the sleigh bells
and thirty-two hooves
pounding on the rooftop,
hymning Christmas Eve’s song.
Each note chimes
and floats over my head,
adjuring toy soldiers marching,
dolls waltzing, ballerinas, like snowflakes,
twirling, tress shawled in tinsel,
ornaments, and lights, and
Santa Claus riding in his sleigh in the night sky.
I hear sleigh bells ringing
on Christmas Eve.
