In The Pan

In The Pan

 Like flash paper
smoke sailing up
with a brown curl
collapsing in on itself
turning to soot at your touch
Everyone goes on
about the butterfly
but it’s the moth
who tries for the light
Most days are like this
the ashtray agony
hob nail ring in pocket
the instant flame with its hope
flash bulb bright
gone just as quick
