he sits alone on a park bench
watching birds and passersby
thinks about the time he’s done
thirty years gone by
well he knew his world was changing
but this caught him by surprise
he didn’t know what to think
looking at the world with child’s eyes
how did they expect him to change all his ways
living a life with numbered days
why couldn’t they just let him stay
and die a peaceful man
he couldn’t seem to find his place
in life’s little game
a game he’s played so many times
but now the rules have changed
he grabs a bottle and takes one last shot
he tries to ease the pain
he finishes up his last knot
never scared ever again
how did they expect him to change all his ways
living a life by numbered days
why couldn’t they just let him stay
and die a peaceful man
