“I’m sure you’ve been asked this many times before, but where do you draw your inspiration from?”
I want to say it’s playing hide and seek with Mom; me hiding, her seeking shelter at the sound of wobbly footsteps. Squeezing my eyes shut as he pinned me down and whisper-grunted in my ear, ‘You like it, don’t you, bitch?’ Swallowing the promise of a normal tomorrow with the morning-after pill and a glass of stale water.
Instead, I plaster a smile and answer, “Oh, you know, the usual. Nature, stimulating conversations, long walks in the park, good prose.”

Born, raised, and currently living in Bucharest, Romania, Teodora Vamvu is an online content manager and marketing specialist at a national radio station. She has flash fiction and short prose published on Spillwords, 101Words, Friday Flash Fiction, Globe Soup, and MetaStellar, and she is also part of two prose anthologies and an upcoming poetry one, published through Amazon, available in Kindle format and print-on-demand. Her CNF piece was a finalist in F(r)iction's Creative Non-Fiction Spring 2024 contest.
