Love For the Life We Can’t Walk Away From

written by: Gaurav Ojha

As we were breaking up
With a drinking glass tumbling down the stairs
Perhaps we ended up knowing each other a bit too much
Even after we have stretched the empty space in between us
We can still find love that makes us return to ourselves
For the heart that carries our breath together
We can’t compare what we have
With what others can’t even imagine
Summer days have turned cold
Chocolates have been eaten
Roses have lost their charm
Trees under which we used to sit together for hours
Have been cut down
Brown brick roads have been carbonized
Farmers have learned to use pesticides
What takes us high also leaves us low
We can’t always fly with young birds
There is no nest in the sky
For storms and thunder
Come down
Let us pick up tiny pieces of love
Shattered over the rugs of our living rooms
We can call it a compromise
Commitment without losing out on
Self-respect we have
For the life we can’t walk away from
