New alert

written by: Don Knowles

News bulletin across the tube
In blackened bold typeface
"No Deaths to report across the globe"
We made it past one day
No war widows weep
No highway crash
No starving child's passing
It was such a shock
I could not mock
For my pediment is pessimism
It was confirmed this miracle
No one soul left this earth
Not the aged
Not the pure at birth
In the streets we will rejoice
For the lack of the loss of one small voice
This day remembered from this day forth
We will call it "The Day of the Living"

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

My response to the macabre 24 hour news cycle

Don Knowles

My writing is typically written while I'm on a treadmill, so I call myself "the treadmill poet!"

Born in West Chester Pa in 1960 I have been inspired to begin writing again through my interactions with two people I care deeply about that are experiencing the torrents of mental illness.
