Nobody’s Daughter
written by: Diana Burns
The poet slumps bleeding,
her limits, not heeding
turning pain into prose
ink into woes.
She knows not what she oughta
daddy never taught her –
‘cause she’s nobody’s daughter.
Speaking in chunks or not at all
always left taking the fall
raging in a war within
one she’ll never win.
She knows not what she oughta
daddy never taught her –
‘cause she’s nobody’s daughter.
Sense of self shattered
bruised and battered.
All daddy ever taught her
was that she’s nobody’s daughter.
