Remember when?
Original Prose by Anne G
Remember when
we were kings amongst men,
building castles of air, dreaming dreams;
imagining.
Commanding at will, invincible – defiant,
bravado our shields – courage our swords.
We strode the world with the conviction of youth;
surrender – capitulation were never an option.
Time of no notice – never considered
we lived like the kings we were destined to be.
Yet time took it’s course turning youth into age;
invincible kings into vulnerable men.
Time, the one constant, the clock ticking on;
seconds and minutes turning hours to days and months into years.
Our castles slowly crumbled, our dreams much forgotten;
invincibility and defiance replaced by vulnerability and complacency.
Our shields of youth lost their shine – our swords of courage their sharpness.
Our stride not as quick, our confidence questioned
we surrendered to gravity overcome by it’s weight.
Destined by nature to realms not quite known,
the days lived as kings will always remain.
There will be no regret and you’ll hear this refrain;
How joyous the days, of the castles we built,
dreaming dreams of the future and imagining more …
Reminiscing, remembering we’ll always be heard
with heightened excitement and memories extolled
asking the question, again and again
do you, can you, remember when?
