Spotlight On Writers
Franci Eugenia Hoffman
- Where do you originate from?
I was born in Orlando, Florida, before the mouse, meaning before the arrival of Disney World. At that time Orlando, was just another city wishing for recognition and growth. When Disney came along, the city took on a completely new personality. I must say, I was there at the right place and the right time. In addition to my career in the insurance industry, I was involved in modeling and extras in commercials. It was a very exciting time, and I loved that I was able to experience and grow with a story of success.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
I lived in every nook and cranny in Florida, from coast to coast and in between. I moved over 15 times just in the state of Florida, and a few more moves to other states in the US. Plus, during my career, as a Commercial Underwriter in the insurance industry, my travels were extensive in the US, including a few visits abroad. My life in Florida consisted of my childhood, career beginnings, and a lot of soul searching about my future. Because of the heat and huge storms, I felt it was time to move on.
With that said, I attended college in Fulton, Mo, my first taste of four seasons, and I loved it. Also, I lived in New Jersey for a couple of years, and fell in love with winter and snowy days.
Finally, my dreams came true when my employer transferred my family from Jacksonville, Florida, to Atlanta, Georgia, where I retired. I couldn’t wait for autumn, experiencing its cozy charm, chilly weather, fall leaves in gorgeous hues, and scents of pumpkin spice lattes. We have since moved to a suburb in North Georgia. I consider, Georgia my home, with its four seasons, mountains, and Southern charm.
- What ignites your creativity?
Simply put, nature. 99% of what I write about is nature. My inspiration is being outside or peering out the window, appreciating every aspect of nature.
- Do you have a favorite word, and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
My favorite word is magic, which I use frequently when writing poetry. One of my phrases that comes to mind is:
life’s magic an eternal guide
it carries my soul and my pride
my soul sings born to be alive
- What is your pet peeve?
Ignorance, people not accepting responsibility, and lack of kindness. Humankind can learn a lot from nature if they would take the time to observe and listen. I prefer to avoid listening, and reading the news, because I feel there is more to life than succumbing to another’s opinion.
We only go around once, and should dance like no one is watching and live every moment to its fullest.
- How would you describe the essence of Franci Eugenia Hoffman?
I am a baby boomer, and learning to embrace aging, and enjoy every moment of my life. Writing poetry is a blessing, because I can share my emotions, views, and creativity. I believe in holistic healing and what is meant to be will be. When I became frustrated, my mom would say in her southern drawl, “rise up above it”, dahlin.” She was my best friend and a wonderful supporter of everything I wanted to do. Unfortunately, I lost my mom when I was 23 years old.
I never had children, but during my lifetime, I have adopted many fur babies, and consider them as part of my family. Currently, I am a proud mom of an adopted 6-year-old Tortoiseshell cat.
