Spotlight On Writers

Waide Riddle

  1. Where do you originate from?

I was born in Kingsville and raised in Houston, Texas, in the charming Spring Branch/Spring Shadows suburb.

  1. What do you cherish most about the place you call home?

I love Culver City/Los Angeles. It’s the best-kept secret in the L.A. area. Close to Venice Beach, I love the walking and hiking trails of Ballona Creek, and Downtown Culver City is vibrant and beautiful.

  1. What ignites your creativity?

Anything and everything. Weather, especially… foggy, drizzly, misty days and nights… overcast… then again, a spring flower of bold color…. or a beautiful summer day….

  1. Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?

Quintessential

My book ‘A Grieving Man’ is the quintessential novel about San Francisco.
My book ‘And in walks Johnny’ is the quintessential novel about Palestine, Texas.

Not exactly poetic, but you get the picture.

  1. What is your pet peeve?

Consistent lousy grammar and spelling.

  1. How would you describe the essence of Waide Riddle?

I’m someone who lives in the past. Nostalgic. Vintage. I long for the days of yesterday and yesteryear. The clothes of the 1950s… the music of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s… take me back to the time when my family was alive, whole, happy, and together.
