Spotlight On Writers
Jenna Moquin
- Where do you originate from?
Boston, Massachusetts.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
The history, the architecture of old buildings and landmarks, and especially all of the famous authors who’ve resided there.
My favorite landmark is the Edgar Allen Poe statue on Boylston Street. Every time I see it I get chills thinking about his stories, and the legacy he left for authors of dark fiction.
- What ignites your creativity?
A long walk, a certain song playing, a dream, sometimes a little nip of scotch.
One vivid dream I had years ago was the inspiration for my first novel, Stalks. I had a dream about a woman running through the woods wearing a bloodied, torn wedding dress, and I couldn’t get the image out of my head. So, I had to write about this woman, what got her into this terrifying situation, and how she might escape.
- Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
Onomatopoeia
The bubbling noise of
bourbon poured into empty tumblers
surrounds and resounds,
howls into the halls,
as the empty house
moans and groans
into the night.
- What is your pet peeve?
Hypocrisy. I don’t respect people who expect others to “do as I say, not as I do.”
- How would you describe the essence of Jenna Moquin?
My essence is authenticity. I can’t fake anything.
