Striped Shirts and Mini Skirts

She took the stage
and sounded like the
New York punk scene
of the 70’s.
Debbie Harry clothing.
The Dead Boys attitude.
Patti Smith poetry.
CBGB.
I liked that.
I liked that she was raised,
or raised herself,
on that music.
You don’t just stumble upon that music.
You have to search for it.
You have to be broken for it.
You have to have empathy.
Empathy for the innocent.
Empathy for the addicts.
Empathy for the bankrupt.
Empathy for the normal.
the ones who live with blinders on.
She took the stage and showed me
that she sees through the filigree.
She took the stage and showed me
that she sees
me.
