The Bent Tree

The Bent Tree

written by: Samuel Torontour

The bent tree
Growing crooked towards the light
Pushed out of the soil early on, its exposed roots have formed a woody callus
It grows diagonally compared to the other trees
And they don’t seem to mind that it’s not like their kind
It grows straight, along its diagonal path, headed for the light
What strength must it have to be pushed out of its roots into a crooked path, and still find the light
To grow tall and strong in the light along a straight path is glorious
But to grow crooked, and still reach the light is truly remarkable
