An Epiphany

An Epiphany

written by: SmithaV

I had a feeling about the block
in my mind dissolving-
the words flowing again.
I dreamed of this day-
when the lines would reach me without a hitch

and I would weave them into a poetic tapestry.
I had a feeling about the block
that it was the doing of a supernatural power.
So, I prayed day and night
As an ascetic may for the gift of tongues.

A year went by or two
I had an epiphany that led me to think
I had a feeling about the block. I believed
it was my doing; I hadn’t done the heavy lifting;
my brain had become sore and stiff.

I started working out. A few laps of similes,
metaphors, assonance; and then a few more
of alliterations and consonance. Again,
I had a feeling about the block
that it was beginning to disintegrate.

It began with a tiny crack, the words trickled out-
slowly at first, it made my fingers tingle.
Then, as if a dam broke, they gushed out
like they wouldn’t be held back any longer, and I said,
I had a feeling about the block.
