The Facade

The Facade

written by: Shruthi Senthilkumar

People stilled the dust
Mid-air in dead light
They carved statues
In hues that live inside
Veiled with a facade
Of truth pulled on tight
Grieving for presents
Meant for broken ties

People built a town
With derailing trains
Hung up the big clock
Its numbers held in chains
Smoke unrolled spirits
Their clouds caved in
Change was the reason
But paint always stains

People sparked a war
With an echo’s grave
Yet they sliced their lies
Burying them in the dog days
They cut through the stone
And glee brewed a haze
Etched in the devil’s motif
The facade will prevail
