The ‘Irreversible’ of Time
written by: Maria Chalastani
On the ethereal tightrope of time
my suspended, worn-out dreams
are aging backwards
defying ‘the irreversible’
of ‘wear and tear’-
deferring to the value
of open-ended cycles.
In the mirror of ‘yesterday’
my reflection fades out
like flashbacks stripped of their wholeness
but still I am not afraid
as I trust my remaining senses
to trigger them in unsuspected time
and to reconstruct the fragments
into a new ‘whole.’
Across the meadow of desires
all my sunflowers stay in bloom
oblivious to the passing of seasons
as they were sown
to follow the path of light
and to seek the sunrise
in the deepest dark.
At the battlefield of life
my arrows, my ever-vigilant guards
have grown wiser through the years
of fighting pointless battles
then rebounding
straight back to my “Achilles’ heel.”
We are made of the material of dreams,
the mirrors of the past,
the sunflowers of the future
and the wounds of arrows.
And in the final count, nothing scares me more
than the residues of time not consumed
on dreams
experiences
desires
and battles worth fighting.
“The heavy toll of unlived moments
is the only ‘irreversible’ about time,”
cries on my old hourglass
which has been begging me
to reverse it.
