The Lonely Birch

The Lonely Birch

There stands a tree,
Beside an abbey,
So many lives past,
Yet so it remains

Bearing witness to times changed,
Our rising & civil war,
The Emergency and more,
Yet so it remains

Not far a river flows,
Midstream it never slows,
Midst floods and wanes,
Yet so it remains,

The tree it stands tall,
Dead abbey in freefall,
Centuries old, the tree
For now it remains.
