The Pain That Revisits

The Pain That Revisits

written by: TM Arko

It burns
Stings
Draws rings
Around the moon
Wakes me
At midnight
No longer friends
You were my lover
Forty years
Since I have known you
I forgot the details
I still remember
The pain that revisits
When you mattered
To me
Not near enough
I could not hold you
To keep you
By my side
Emptiness lingering
Darkness growing
I brought my shadows
Into the light
Your sorrow
Long time gone
Still makes me sad
So does your nostalgic laughter
My present and future
Are only
Here and now
Still aching
With emotional twitches
Recovering from the stitches
When the pain revisits
Those tears in your eyes
The wound of my heart
Appears
Disappears
Tossing
Turning
Wakes me
At midnight
While I wonder
If the pain revisits
You
