The Path to Gondolin

The Path to Gondolin

written by: Enrico Barigazzi

You’re going through this narrow trail
while you bump into the way to the high white towers
which used to try the sky
and the stars formed a sacred crown
around their spires

Oh please wayfarer!
Please stop your strolling
and listen to the ancient tales of these ruins
that would have made your eyes shine
in the old times

the summer moonlight skimmed over her hair
the prince touched softly her hand
and the time of the sweetest beauty
would end up in the wind over the mountains

bitter memories haunted the dreams
of a scattered people
the brave fear and the death of
the heroes would live wrapped in old faded scrolls

the worms would slither from the iron fortress
alongside the dark wisdom which made up them
then they sneaked through the path to the hidden valley
while the elves were waiting the rising sun
from their marble flowered balconies

but the flames of an evil will
would tear their joy
dimmed by a guffawing dark lord
surrounded by the creatures
of his haughtiness.
