The Peace Marshalls

The Peace Marshalls

written by: Tony Ashenden

How many Marshalls are there
that keep the peace
and keep it from us?
Bristle with arms
whistle alarms
war in our defence?

How little must we know
of the care that they give?
To be insured for the peace
we must never release
Rights they have to insist
of needs to wield a mailed fist.

And from whose love-proof bunker
do they manifest
edicts of care
that sound like a prayer
as we work to gain rest
to protect what is best?

How many Marshalls are there
uniformed in passion
biblical in tone
who throw the first stone?
Elected by us
with agendas we trust?

Might I now ask
why the need of rare earth
means the loss of my land?
Why urge me to stand
take the money and spend
when all I need is a friend?

How many Marshalls have we
appointed the peace to defend
are gifting AI
to gain by stealth
appetite for wealth
desires disturbing the peace?

Will they make sure
the planes in the sky
and the drones overhead
will keep me safe in my bed?
Make smiles of my sorrow
and make believe in tomorrow?

How many Marshalls can there be
who we purpose for peace
and tell us they do
Protecting us
As we believe they must
armed dollar pound bitcoin and yen?

With the stroke of a pen…

Guns at the ready…

Speaking mantras of peace.
