The Quantum Entanglement of Bonnethead Sharks
written by: Christian Ward
The toy-like pups, rubbery
and plasticky, are pulled out
of the jar like lines
from a poet’s head. On the table,
their bodies are diminutive shovels,
not sharks. Plucked from a seven pound
mother, they must have been intertwined.
The shared hurt of the push
and pull of tweezers
and the sudden horror of knives
must have made them writhe
like opposing currents.
The sea is locked with everything
it carries, no matter the distance.
This is how the birds are with the sky,
how the trees are with the earth.
This is how I am with you –
locked in your arms, no matter
the distance or place
or the noise carrying me
like rain to unseen rivers.
