The Smart Tree

The smart tree knows when it’s reached its height
It stretches towards the light, inching humbly along, until high above the landscape, it takes its place in the sky
It slowly adds itself to the forest, but even alone, it would not grow beyond itself
It understands that it needs strong roots to support its height
It will not grow beyond them
It knows when to stop reaching for the sky
My name is Samuel Torontour, I am originally from Montreal, but I now live in Ottawa, Ontario, where I am a family physician. I have been a musician, songwriter and an aspiring poet.
