The Wait

Like still water
My bird and I gazed
As the moon puts on its shade
When the trumpet sounded ‘corona’
And horizons broke through like dray
Chasing everyone away
My bird had yearned for the drey
To sing to little squirrels
While standing on the hay
And I have yearned for the bakery
To fill my raffia basket
While getting ready for the day
Like a bray the news came;
“Corona virus is on its way!”
My bird and I laid off
Into the house we made our way
But my bird flew and stood 25 feet away
Then we counted ticks of the clock:
Tic, tac, tic, tac …
Waiting for corona to go away
