Three Children

She said she wanted children: “Two girls and a boy,
To mirror our love.”
But as a child myself, I could not proclaim to be
A properly attired parent, so walked.
She’s happier now, peering into the glass remains
of a puddle where three toddlers waddle to the arms
Her husband bestows.
