Before The Sun Rises

Before The Sun Rises

written by: Beth Warren

Her eyes start to feel heavy,
She struggles to keep them open.
She wasn’t quite ready,
But her concentration was broken.

‘Twas the night before dawn,
When Bethy gave a yawn
And said to Peter ‘I’m turning in,
My pillow awaits,’ she announced with a grin

Peter gave her a peck
On the side of her neck.
‘Night night darling,’ he replied
As he flicked through the TV guide.

They are like ships passing in the night,
One thrives in the day, while the other loves night.
Bethy’s a lark and Peter’s an owl,
Bethy starts each day with a smile, not a scowl.

Early to bed is her lifelong routine,
Late-night ventures are not her scene.
She loves to read before going to sleep,
A bookmark between pages, the spot to keep.

Her alarm needs no number,
First light never fails.
She awakes from her slumber,
Bright-eyed and bush-tailed.

She ponders the good things in store for the day,
A healthy balance of work and play.
Walking, cycling, and writing too,
Coffee catch-ups with a friend or two.

Peter and Bethy share the middle of the day,
When it’s neither too late nor too early either way.
They enjoy each other’s company, whatever they do.
A match made in Heaven for these two.

One feels no pressure to change the other,
On this issue, they respect one another.
They appreciate that it’s ok to be different,
Their opposite attraction is magnificent.

Whether in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere;
One thing is abundantly clear.
Bethy always awakens before the sun rises,
The habit of early to bed she still prizes.
