Sunrise

Sunrise

written by: Beth Warren

26,409 is my number.
Counting each day, I have emerged from my slumber.
The dependable sunrise bursts forth with radiant light
To awaken the deep purple velvet nights.

So many times, I have marvelled and admired
the rising sphere ablaze with fire.
On other days, I was distracted and missed
the heavenly display of skyward bliss.

Each 24 hours is a precious gift,
From dawn to dusk, a meaningful shift
Of daily reminders to do our best
And cherish moments in our life’s quest.

Oh, there were nights when I willed the morning not to come,
I would cover my head and block out the sun.
In those times of worry and despair,
I tossed and turned, and sleep was rare.

I am grateful for restful nights when all was well,
When peace reigned in the home I dwelled.
Happily dreaming of adventures ahead,
Mornings joyfully leaping out of bed.

Through every sunrise of my life,
the good days, the sad days, and the strife,
A new dawn heralds the hope of possibility,
For laughter, beauty, and loving ability.
