TO MONNA PRIMAVERA
written by: Jagari Mukherjee
In your slender hand, you hold honeysuckles
Gifted by the one you love, as you
Day dream about your lover under the sheltering sycamore;
Your book of romance neglected
In the throes of a real-life passion.
Your flowing dress of green silk
(Greener than sycamore leaves)
Veil your secret beauties.
Your translucent eyes, matching your dress
And your lips, red like ripe berries
Are the cause
Of the artist’s rest, and his unrest.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
This poem is inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting, The Day Dream, originally named as Monna Primavera.
