Until Morning

Until Morning

written by: Alan David Gould

But for your smile, I would not have realized
that the liquid light in your eyes was a river
emptying through me

As I drink you in
placing my shadow in yours
your eyes transport me through life

In your mouth, more essential than words
is a silence more profound than night
opening to a world without time

In a strand of your hair
the definition of all your lines
I must read you to the end
and place you in a direction
where your completeness will chart my path

You are my compass, sage and goddess
I will protect you while you sleep
until morning overtakes us
