Wastelands

Wastelands

written by: Maggie Watson

The blackened Lillies of life.
Discarded shells of love died.
In barren wastelands, broken hearts lie.
Once upon a time, romance bloomed
as the petals of their heart chambers began to
bloom.
Alas, those petals fell too quickly,
swiftly becoming a shroud,
a blanket of ash devoid of affection.
Obsidian rain washed any seeds of colour away, wastelands
of broken hearts became.
Within those fields, nothing grows.
Only a river of salty tears flows.
While vultures fight over what remains
of the hearts with carrion crows.
