What’s Old Is New

Generations come, generations go
But earth continues its enduring flow
The sun rises, the sun sets
In a cycle it swiftly resets

The wind’s journey is never straight
From south to north, it navigates
Round and round, it whirls and twirls
Returning to its origin, it unfurls

Streams cascade into the endless sea
Yet the sea never fills completely
From where they emerge, they retrace
Back to their source, they embrace

Weariness abounds, in all things we find
No words can capture the wearied mind
Eyes crave more than they can perceive
Ears long for sounds they can’t retrieve

What has happened shall happen once more
Nothing new under the sun’s ancient lore
Can we claim novelty in life’s grand view?
Long ago, it existed, familiar and true

Former generations, lost in time’s haze
Even those to come won’t ignite praise
For memories fade, like whispers in the night
Obscurity awaits, for all in our sight
