To Go Back
written by: Nicholas Hawk
The striking light that breaks the dawn
Meets the tired eyes it’s cast upon.
Tranquil hues paint a lovely scene,
Before the blues and slept-in sheets.
The flowing filaments, like swirling sparks,
Shine glowing brilliance between the darks.
Sunshine peeks through translucent greens,
Memories of past and pleasant things.
Branches beckon beyond the windows,
To a slept-in bed and bunched-up pillows.
Then a bitter taste steals the sweet,
As my twisted face starts to weep,
Because the empty room across from mine
Remains dormant beneath the hand of time.
