Whispers of Christmas

In the Silent Streets
beneath the tinsel sky of gold
where soft carols are sung by old
there lies a land in shadows deep
Where Christmas comes
not in pomp or feast
But in whispered prayers
and dreams of peace

A mother’s hands, worn and dry
Stirs thin broth as her children cry
Not for gifts wrapped in shiny bows
But for bread, for warmth
A hunger sated for now
Her heart, full of hope
Holds tight to faith
that helps cope.
Here the world is stripped of dreams—
streets are silent,
windows shuttered
with newspaper reams
to shut off the cold

But know that here,
where life is rough,
spirit of Christmas is enough
for love still walks
through broken streets
In every stranger
that one meets

In these underdeveloped lands, you’ll see—
Christmas is what
they dare to be.
