You Were Here
written by: Alan David Gould
Though the space you occupied
has no remaining evidence of your presence,
you were here with us
and your vitality filled these rooms
Your laughter permeated our beings,
we are changed forever
We think of your conversation
The sound of your voice
The person you were at this magic moment
never to be regained,
never duplicated,
never again
Oh, we spoke about next time, yet we all knew
there was only this time
and the house is thick with it
as if it were a river flowing through us
in the still of early morning
