The Feast of Halloween

My tingling spine is telling me to run,
A black cat screeches with the death of the sun
Lurking in the shadows are things I can’t see,
Then a little goblin warns, those things are coming for me!
I stand behind my door, I’m freezing up with fear,
I can hear a werewolf howling and vampires snarling sneer.
A dead girl screams in the distance, a ghost goes floating by,
A poor little boy is running down the road, with a hatchet stuck in his eye!
It’s carnage on the streets tonight, the dead have risen from sleeping,
Then a noise cuts through, I’m sure it sounds like a little child is weeping,
“Trick or treat” I think I hear, What foolery is this?!
It’s not a ghoul! I’m hungry now, my tongue flickers, as I hiss.
I stand up straight, I open the door, and shed back my human skin,
“Helllllllooo, my lovliessssss”, I softly say, “Would you like to come in?”
The screaming starts, they scramble to run, of course they don’t get away,
I circle them all, squeezing tight, a tasty dinner for the end of my day.
I love this night, I can play my tricks on the treats that knock on my door,
Nobody notices the screaming as I feast, it makes me greedy for more,
But a promise I did make, to dark forces unseen
That I shall only dine on humans, during the feast of Halloween.
