A Summer’s Day at The Beach

As the glistening waves ebb over drifting sand,
curlews and gulls whoosh and sweep in a crystal sky,
over the northern shores of my homeland.
Mossy pebbles and gleaming shells, a fairy wonderland,
where beachcombers hunt for treasure scattered by
the glistening waves on the drifting sand.
Wet-suited surfers swim in; boards in hand
to brace cold waters cresting high,
on the northern shores of my homeland.
Kid’s build sandcastles from wet sand
as protective parents keep watchful eyes,
where the glistening waves ebb over drifting sand.
Strolling visitors, bags of chips in hand,
listen for seagulls’ squawking cries,
beside the northern shores of my homeland.
Old folks slowly saunter by,
praying the weather will stay dry,
as the glistening waves ebb over drifting sand,
onto the northern shores of my homeland.
