A Silent Sunset

I stood on the beach,
The same beach I’d stood with her time and time again.
Only this time I was alone with nothing…
Nothing but a rose in my hand.
A rose I planned to place on her grave
before the tears came crashing down.
I stared out towards the Horizon,
Noticing it casting itself over the Sun.
Darkness would soon settle and the last glimmer of light would be…
Gone.
A fading memory.
Like many other memories this beach had engraved in my mind.
I watched as parents called their children to come back to shore,
I watched the sun sink down
Slowly but surely,
The last bit of day changed to night.
I glanced to the other side,
The Moon
It was beautiful as always.
I walked again to the graveyard.
It was a long one, I lit a cigarette.
I placed the rose on my deceased wife’s grave.
