Spotlight On Writers
Alyssa Brocker
- Where, do you hail from?
It was a rainy day in 1995… No, I’m kidding I won’t make you read all of that. I’m from a very small town in Michigan. My elementary school principal knew every student’s name, and I wouldn’t want to have grown up anywhere else.
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
I now live in another small town in Florida. Everywhere I look gives me inspiration for a poem or picture. Rain season is when I find myself most creative, sitting on my lanai, with my puppy on my lap, worn-looking notebook in hand.
- What turns you on creatively?
Now this may sound a little morbid, but when I’m crying in my car at three in the morning about some boy who could care less, that’s when I’m most creative. What can I say, I’m a sucker for sad things. If you ask anyone in my life, they would tell you I’m a tad sensitive. I feel a lot of things and it’s great for writing. I’m still trying to figure out if it’s a good thing for life.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
Boy;
after
the temperature
dropped,
and her mittens
stopped doing their job,
she realized the
boy
didn’t want to hear what
she had to
say.
- What is your pet peeve?
When someone thinks they are entitled to something because of where they come from or who their parents are.
- What defines Alyssa?
A girl who gets lost on her way to the party, almost hits a mailbox pulling in, but when she finally gets there-(mostly)-everyone is glad she made it.
