Thirsty Tree

Thirsty Tree

written by: Jane Emeruwa

The iroko tree looks drenched from the intense heat.
Dreadful dried tillow begins to shed one after the other.
Heavy raindrops, quenching the thirst of the dying tree.
The tree dances across the waters, waving its hands in appreciation.

At last, free from the grip of the deplenished old ruling fool,
That dries up the strength of a mighty iroko tree.
Shattering its twigs into the open blue sky for matching feet to trample upon.

The cool breeze blows the rain North-East, from the savannah dessert,
Unto the green grass that lays beneath the ground.
Bringing life to, every dying offspring of Mother Earth.

A Beautiful blackbird sings and perches on top of the tree.
Soon, it spread its wings high up in the sky ready to fly.
