Poinsettia Wreath in a December Churchyard

Marble-cold, her face pearlescent
in a deep green shadow-pool
between sentinel Yews.
December dusk a gathered shawl
about her frozen feathers, lifted forever
between dust and stars.
Garlanded crosses and shrouded urns
hunch and lean, in centuries-long vigil
over folded ground.
There, a Poinsettia:
Blood-bright on monochrome,
scarlet petals, frost-glittered.
A Christmas wish, laid in love.
