Fun With Idioms

written by: Arlene J Placer

It was easy to take the reins.
To be back in the fray.
The die was cast in a stormy horizon while we threw the anchor and ran before the wind.
We were burning the candle at both ends and tried not to get the wind knocked out, but it was strike while the iron was hot.
But we had a millstone around our necks, and were in a tight squeeze.
Like a ship in a storm, we were dealt a bad hand, but we put the wind in our sails and hoped for a wild card.
We were fly-by-nighters who were all smoke and no fire.
We were on the chopping block and hoped not to upset the cart.
And so we dropped the gauntlet to reach the finish line with one fell swoop.
