Desiderio

Desiderio

written by: Yesmine Lagras

God, what do I do
with a love this large
and a chest this small?

Tell me, God
Why thread longing through my bones
like it belongs there,
like I was built for this…
this beautiful, unbearable wanting?

Desiderio.

Have mercy on the heart
that loves before it thinks,
that burns before it understands
it is already ash.

God, is this what you intended?
to make us hungry
for what we cannot name,
to make the longing
feel more real
than the having ever could?
