Spotlight On Writers
Courtney Trowman aka CC Bella

- Where, do you hail from?
I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio however, I believe people hail from all the places where they’ve spent significant time. We go through so many phases in our lives that each locale imparts a different kind of lesson and wisdom. I’ve been lucky to hail from several locations such as Prescott and Phoenix, Arizona; Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, California; Haywards Heath, England; and Savannah, Georgia where I now reside.
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
The greatest thing about Savannah, my current home, is the love of my life. I was not looking for or expecting him or even believed he existed. Our love is my home, no matter where we are geographically. Also, the trees here are pretty spectacular and magical. Their majesty makes up for the lack of mountains, terrain I do miss.
- What turns you on creatively?
Everything. I see beauty and inspiration everywhere because I’m an artist with several fires in her belly. I constantly get ideas for poems, blogs, paintings, photography, jewelry, or choreography. Yet what allows me to act on those ideas is a quiet left brain. I have a very persistent practical side, and it’s like that part needs to be appeased first before I can truly sit and create something.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
I can rarely play favorites with anything, and I will quote J.K Rowling to say –
“Words are… our most inexhaustible source of magic.”
- What is your pet peeve?
Close-mindedness is infuriating to me … and then because I’m a writer the incorrect usage of its/it’s; their/there/they’re; your/you’re is also irritating.
- What defines Courtney Trowman aka CC Bella?
I think the word that best defines me creatively is conglomeration. That or nefelibata, the title of my latest book, meaning ‘cloudwalker’ or one who does not obey by the conventions of society, literature, or art. Like I said, I have several fires in my belly that take turns needing to be stoked. I remember someone telling me when I was young that I would need to pick just one thing and focus on that. That never sat right in my heart though. While I won’t ever be a master or expert in any of my interests, I’m okay with that. I feel more complete as an artist being multi-dimensional.
