NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
I am a substitute teacher. Last year I subbed a total of about two months in fourth grade classroom for a sick friend. There was a young man in the class who would not do his assignments. He is very intelligent. He can read 200 words a minute, comprehend, remember, and understand ideas at a deeper level than most his age. We butted heads every day. Then the last day I was in his room, at lunchtime, he walks up to me with closed fist. I did not know what to expect but held out my hand anyway. He grinned and dropped a Hershey’s Kiss in my hand moving away fast. I still have it in my freezer with a note to remember him, and that I reached some part of him.
