Darkness

Darkness

darkness descends ever so slowly
inching, creeping downward
like the slowly fading light of a summer’s eve
imperceptible at first

the bleakness has weight to it
a heavy burden
weighted bags of sorrow, fear, anxiety pulling
drowning in blackness

it is cold and non-discriminating
attacking at will
morning or night it steals like a thief
ransacking the soul

hopelessness and reality blended together
despair, cheerlessness, suffering
do the words really matter when nothing changes
no dawn yet

darkness descends ever so slowly
inching, creeping downward
the gravity of life overwhelms the present
it is black
