The Raven

The Raven

Two eyes glint as gemstones,
feathers ruffled like crazy tar…he flies,
gliding as a blazing Onyx,
to perch on a Silver Birch.
Hops in a twiggy hay fixture,
beaded worms wriggle as an oyster necklace…
Valued treasure. His tree-lair sways,
a current of wind weaves the twilight dusk.

Spring’s season utters lilac-yellow,
nests echo shrills of infant Tits…
The Raven, long ebony plumage,
eyes fixed, swoops, ransacks.
Blinded fledgling chicks
resemble fleshy pomegranates…
Shallow throats of rubied Tulips
bleed-weep compassion for tiny corpses.
Parents hearts pump as flickering stars.
