Scent of Death

pandemic victims ripe in the air
gregorian chant, I hear
requiem!
cold shiver creeps in
grim reaper holding his scythe
like a farmer harvesting his crops
gruesome sight! I wanna throw up!
corpses piled up
some sheltered in black bags
some just as they are
some trapped in an offensive fist
passed their rigor mortis
limb softly swayed by the wind
stench is overpowering
decaying greyed flesh
a feast for maggots, mobbed by flies
parasites delight
devoured by wildlife
mowed down to its final hurdle
a fate of struggle
inhumation’s forbidden
may after life be found
another time, another place

Rest in peace.
