A Raven Recites Poe’s Words

A raven recites Poe’s words
on all Hallo’s Eve.
Each word, threnody, inauspicious,
and unsettling, emanating from his ebony beak,
speaking in Poe’s voice, ascending
from within his decaying coffin, buried
at Westminster Hall and over my tedious head.
He speaks of bereavement,
resurrection from the grave,
hearts whispering tales and secrets
underneath floorboards,
black cats wailing their forlorn laments
and disembodied voices, horrendous and sepulchral,
echoing within the walls, ghosts, sanity, and madness
while perched high on Poe’s tombstone
underneath the Harvest Moon’s scarlet light.
Each word conjures horrid nightmares,
and apparitions, inauspicious and irreligious,
with sepulchral and pale faces
and scarlet and charred black eyes,
staring and filling dread and madness within my soul.
A raven recites Poe’s words
on all Hallo’s Eve.
