Plaintiff’s Voice

A Plaintiff’s Voice

A plaintiff voice

barely perceived

from beneath

a blood drenched earth

was heard to say,

“Come closer please …”

lend an ear

and you shall hear

choruses of mortal beings,

mournful cries in unison

Why me? Why us?

What did we do to die so soon?

No answer, explanation could I offer

no rhyme or reason would suffice …

Boys and girls plied with lies

sugar-coated tales and stories

promises of pride and glory

Stolen youth

shortened lives

senseless loss

enormous cost

Listen hard and you will hear

that plaintiff voice that’s always near

whispering softly in your ear –

“Do not let yourself be swayed

by beating drums of war and hate,

let the earth be drenched instead

with tears of joy by lives well spent.”
